56-year-old actor and Oscar Nominee Salma Hayek has many insightful things to say on learning to celebrate your own beauty, inside and out.
As she says, “People often say that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder,’ and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where other have not dared to look, including inside ourselves.”
You, too, can learn to validate your own inner and outer beauty. For instance, you can:
- Learn to talk back to your inner critic. What would a friend say if you talked that way about yourself, for instance?
- Recall compliments you’ve received about your positive attributes or appearance.
- Think about your favourite features and list beautiful aspects of your personality, how you live your life and how you care for others.
- Think about people whom you consider attractive thanks to their smile, attitudes and actions.
- Consider all of the amazing things that your body does and lets you enjoy.
This kind of self-validation work may not come easy, but coaching exercises can help empower you.
