If you’re feeling full of worry and anxiety, take a moment to write down all of the things that you’re concerned about. Clearly identifying these is a first step in the FranklinCovey Circle of Influence exercise. Watch this video to find out more.
Next, divide the things that you’re worried about into a list of things that you have control or influence over, and a list of things that you have no control or very little control over.
Ask yourself: “What is one thing that I could do today, however small, relating to something that I have control over?” Do it.
If there are things that you can potentially influence the outcome on, write down a few steps to make that happen and decide when you want to take action on those.
Then, cross out items on the list of things that you have no or very little control or influence over, and decide to let them go. Your time and mental energy are best spent on things that are in your control.
If you’re on the run, just keep asking, “What’s in my control?”
