You’ve probably heard of well-known life coaches like Martha Beck, Robin Sharma and Tony Robbins, author of Awaken The Giant Within. But if you’re one of the many people who has googled, “Where is a life coach near me,” you’re probably wondering how a life coach can benefit you. (And what exactly do life coaches do, anyway?)
Achieve Clarity & Goals
In the same way that you might hire a personal trainer to build your physical fitness, you can hire a life coach like me to help you elevate your awareness and mindset, find clarity and progress toward your goals. When you go to the gym on your own, for example, you may do the same workout that you always do, and even skip a few exercises because you’re feeling tired. In contrast, a fitness trainer might suggest new exercises and encourage you to go a little further than you would on your own. Likewise, a life coach is an ally and thinking partner who helps you tune into your values, uncover negative beliefs that hold you back and work toward a purposeful life that reflects your authentic self.
How do you know if you need a life coach?
If you’re feeling bored with your life, unfulfilled, chronically stressed or unable to free up time to pursue healthy habits, creative pursuits or long-term goals, coaching can probably help you. Coaching exercises and sessions with me can help boost your insight, guiding you to make changes that will help you thrive. With warmth and compassion, I listen and ask questions that raise awareness and empower you to develop plans that you can act on – at your pace, because it’s your life and you’re accountable for your own progress.
Life coaches are not therapists
If you’ve been experiencing mood changes, hopelessness and other mental health challenges, you may need a therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist rather than a coach. (Talk to your doctor and read this article for more information.)
Typically, therapy concentrates on the impacts of your past, whereas life coaching focuses on clarifying and shaping your future. Coaching takes time and it won’t make you happy 100% of the time, because challenges are part of life, but it will give you the mindset tools to manage obstacles and emotions and move forward.
When you put in the work, the benefits of coaching can include:
- Less stress, confusion and negative self talk
- Increased clarity, confidence and satisfaction with life and work
- Enhanced focus to choose and achieve your goals
- Improved time management and productivity
- More self awareness to benefit you and your relationships
- More ease, peace of mind and quality of life.
Different types of coaches
Many certified and uncertified coaches choose a speciality or niche focus for their coaching, such as career coaching, relationship coaching, grief coaching, financial coaching, sobriety coaching and more.
I personally offer life coaching that empowers midlife women to create more fulfilling and joyful lives – which may touch on careers, relationships, parenting or caregiving approaches and more. (Find out about my certification and approach here.)
Coaching sessions with me – in tandem with exercises done on your own time – will reveal limiting beliefs and create clarity so you can celebrate your strengths while progressing toward new habits and goals.
