If you catch yourself thinking or saying that you “should” do something, take a moment to think it through. “Should” is often code for: “This is something that other people want or say is good, but I actually have no intention of doing myself anytime soon.” (We are very good at bamboozling our own selves.)
So when you’re thinking about goals, ask yourself: “How would I feel if I did this thing? Is it something that I REALLY want?” If the answer is yes, watch this video.
Start by replacing the word “should” with “could.” Does it feel more possible? (For example, “I could meditate” versus, “I should meditate.”)
Then try replacing “could” with “can.” Saying that you CAN do something emphasizes that you have choice and power to do so.
Finally, replace “can” with will. Saying “I will” do something or “I’m excited to” do something is a decision that gets you into action mode.
